Week 15

I know I haven’t posted anything in awhile and the semester has come to an end but I have learned so much in this class. I honestly didn’t think I would have learned as much as we did this semester. I have finally finished my final project (link below). I can’t wait to start on another project because I know there will be certain things that I would do differently. I’m nowhere near being a graphic designer, so I feel my page is lacking in that area but I tried the best I could especially with some of the images I had to work with (not being very high quality).

I would just like to say again that I enjoyed this Web Design 1 class and I can’t wait to keep learning and improving my skills.

Week 8

We did quite a bit this week in Web Design 1. We are currently in the process of making a website for a client that we got to choose. We are still in the beginning stage of development so we had to come up with a color theme which we used Adobe Kuler (find link below). I think this site is amazing and really helps with the development process and trying to come up with different themes. We also had to submit a Design Document (find link below) which is a combined PDF document of a flowchart, storyboards, and a style tile and ends up being a nice way to present your client with ideas of a color theme and rough layouts of how you think the website should look. We also learned about grid based designs and we were sent to a site called 960 Grid Systems which is an amazing site that gives you examples of how different sites look with the different grids they have available.

Well, that’s it for this week. Check the links below for projects I’ve completed so far. I’m really looking forward to doing more with our final project and I will keep posting to show the progress made during that time.

Final Project Proposals

1. Name of the business, organization, etc., that you would like to work with

John Dimes – Artist

How you are affiliated with the organization

I work with a friend who is an artist, author, actor and a host on a show that is on Roku. He was interested in the idea of me making him a website to help get his work published because he’s talked to me before about how he wanted one and has tried it on his own but gave up because it was too challenging.

How you would gain information, photos, and content for the website

He would provide me with all of the artwork and information needed such as up-coming events to keep the website up to date.

Anything else that would be of interest

He is also an author and has books on sale on Amazon, so I would have a section that could link to areas to find his artwork and books to purchase.

If one of your ideas involves a portfolio website, please include whether or not you have current digital content, and what type of portfolio it would be.

It would be a portfolio website along with videos and updates of shows he has coming up and the guests he will have on his show. He would provide me with digital artwork to go on his site and maybe even short clips from his shows.

2. Name of the business, organization, etc., that you would like to work with

How you are affiliated with the organization

My girlfriend and her best friend created a blog and a YouTube channel in 2011 about baking, cooking and reviewing recipes. They expanded the audience of their organization by creating a Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram account where others could be informed and view their content. The idea behind their organization was to share with others their love of cooking and to document the funny things and mistakes that will occur when they try new recipes for the first time.

How you would gain information, photos, and content for the website

They would provide me with photos and videos of both the process and the finished product of the creations they would make. They have an Instagram account and a Facebook page for their organization that would provide pictures and their blog would provide recipes and other text that I would need.

Anything else that would be of interest

They film and edit the videos themselves and they also make bloopers videos of mess ups that occur during filming. Along with cooking, they have also recently branched out and started reviewing make-up and skin care products.

Week 2

It is now week 2 of web design and it has been crazy. I watched a lot of Lynda videos about Fireworks and I’m excited to start doing more projects using that program. It is overwhelming at first but it takes time and it’s not too bad. If you are familiar with Photoshop and Illustrator than I feel like you can pick it up pretty quick. Besides learning different tools in fireworks we also learned about the color theory and how it creates different feelings and responses. I learned about different kinds of line strokes, shapes such as geometric and freeform shapes. Also, how light and shadows alter the levels of depth in an image.

Check back next week for more updates on what we are learning in Web Design 1!
